About Kim
Kim Snowden began sculpting in 1998 after a powerful dream which instructed her in the language of sculpture. She was working as a nurse at the time, but the power of the dream moved her to pursue sculpting full time. She remains, for the most part, "self taught", drawing inspiration from a visceral feeling and subconscious emotions which are infused into her work.
Every piece is one-of-a-kind. "I tend to focus heavily on a theme or emotion for a time, until I’m moved to change focus. I'm partial to the medium of clay because it is quite literally 'earth' and it shapes into form by way of my own consciousness, thoughts and emotions," says Kim. "My hands in clay feels primal and it connects me deeply to the source. My work explores the very basic tenants of what it means to be human. When I am successful at drawing these emotions into the clay and it responds, the viewer feels and understands what I have felt. In this way - and through this process - we come to understand that behind all human facades we remain the same."
Kim Snowden can be found at Ojai's premiere art gallery Made in Ojai on Fridays from 2-4 PM where her work is also displayed. |
